Some bugs and glitches - Murphfix - 03-11-2013 09:58 AM

EDIT 1 (30 march build):
RadeonPro (Windows 7 32-bit, Radeon HD 5770, Catalyst 13.3 beta 3 - works correctly with other builds so it can't be driver issue):
- "Save changes" button in profile menu disappear spontaneously while profiles is modified FIXED,
- Application sometimes lost saved setting (like triple buffering or force process high priority in "Tweaks") and reversed it to default FIXED,
- Ambient Occlusion in CoD Black Ops make mouse freezing STILL OCCUR,
- DX triple buffering tweak in version doesn't work with Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War 1 games (I can force it only by advenced D3D9 - occur some in-game glithches) but in version it works perfectly without "advenced" device detection STILL OCCUR,
- RadeonPro make button flickering in Driver Fusion application (FIXED) and Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight game (also with little graphic glitches) -> with (30 march build) C&C 4 won't start at all.

The new one:
- RadeonPro crashes randomly without error log,
- Scrolling isn't work so smoothly with "catch&push" method (all builds issue, in works good),
- In "Visual" Tab application goes flickering and CPU usage raise up from 2 to 49% (Core 2 Duo Processor),
- RadeonPro services won't activate at system start with "Automatic" start mode, need to be activated manually. Also it starts if user change mode to "Automatic [with delayed start],
- Bioshock2.exe (to singleplayer) profile created in December's build can't be restore in any other (earlier and later) build, but you can make the new one profile with the same settings without problem,
- CCleaner application all the time detects RadeonPro's registry files as "out-of-date" and suggesting to delete it,
- Users can't acivate Overdrive settings for Global Profile. It is possible even in Catalyst Control Centre so it should be able in RP.

BUMP - edited!
Sorry for double post.

Confirming bug 3 under "The New One".

Weird visual flickering occurs under the visual tab and CPU usage spikes upwards to 20%. I have a Quad core whereas Murphfix has a Duo core which may explain the 20-30% discrepancy. Additionally, Task Manager shows that only my first core is affected by this issue, jumping to almost maximum usage while all other cores are unaffected.

However, I've noticed that the flickering ONLY occurs if the "SMAA Quality" dropdown box is onscreen. Scrolling down to a point where this dropdown box no longer appears removes all flickering and restores normal CPU usage. Modifying the size of the new SMAA custom values box so that the numbers don't appear on screen will also fix the flickering and CPU usage problem even if the dropdown box is on screen. These numbers, however, can be on-screen with no issues as long as the dropbox is not visible. This leads me to believe the problem is specifically being caused by the SMAA options.

Increasing the size of the window will alleviate most of the flickering issues with only occasionally minor flickers as opposed to total flickering, however CPU Usage is unaffected by this "fix". Restoring the window back to the default size will not reintroduce the initial flickering problem, and changing back and forth between tabs will also not reintroduce the flickering issue. Closing and reopening the window, however, will reintroduce the flickering even if the RadeonPro wasn't completely closed and nothing short of hiding the SMAA Options I mentioned above will fix the CPU issue.

Update: I've gotten the same results, flickering with CPU spike, when messing with SweetFX settings. The only correlation I can find between the the SMAA settings and the SweetFX settings are the new Table based interface for changing custom values. Highlighting the SweetFX settings Splitscreen or Border that does NOT have the custom table interface does not cause the flickering or CPU problems whereas all the other options that do use this Table based interface do cause the flickering and CPU problems. Specifically, options that use up and down incremental arrows to change settings cause the problem. Dropdown boxes and values that have to be manually typed do not cause the flickering or CPU problems.

Thanks for your reports, guys. Will investigate and keep you posted with my findings.

@DinoThrasher, per your feedback it seems the flickering is being caused by that control responsible for changing settings for SMAA and SweetFX, couldn't replicate the issue here, though. Can you post your system specs, including video card, catalyst version, operating system etc.

Do you have Windows 7's Service Pack 1 installed?

I have a similar configuration but can't replicate that issue here.

RE: Some bugs and glitches - DinoThrasher - 04-14-2013 04:42 PM

I have Service Pack 1 installed so that's not the problem.

I also tried turning off all other programs I had running in the background (such as f.lux) with no luck.

I might try the ATI Beta drivers next and keep poking around and see if I can find anything else about this issue.

RE: Some bugs and glitches - John - 04-14-2013 05:11 PM

Sure SP1 is not a problem, I just trying to figure out what can be causing that CPU spike.

RE: Some bugs and glitches - Murphfix - 04-14-2013 06:41 PM

Don't forget that this issue has started in published (29/Mar/2013 Build) and like DinoThrasher noticed can be associated with new SMAA settings etc.

We (me and DinoThrasher) have Windows 7 (with SP1), GPU from HD5000 series and the same Catalyst 13.3 b3 drivers.
Can someone with similar specs make some tests?Big Grin

RE: Some bugs and glitches - DinoThrasher - 04-14-2013 06:50 PM

Actually, I wasn't using the 13.3 b3 beta drivers when I first posted, I was using the most recent stable release 13.1 (9.0.12) and only updated to 13.3 after my most recent post in a test to see if that might fix the problem.

So it's definitely not a problem unique to the beta drivers.

You didn't mention you have Crossfire, so the problem isn't there either.
